On 28 May 2026, the CULTIVAR project was represented at the international conference SciComPt 2026 – Ciência: Património Para o Futuro, held at the University of Évora. Researchers Sónia Bombico and Keitty de Oliveira Silva presented work developed within Work Package 4, exploring how landscape can be communicated not as a fixed heritage asset, but as a living, evolving process.
The presentation focused on the Praça Estrela, our interdisciplinary cultural project in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde, developed within WP4. The Praça Estrela project targets audiences including vendors, local consumers, tourist guides, and tourists.
By bringing together memory, through an analysis of the site’s historical evolution, and identity, by highlighting how everyday practices contribute to the construction of urban identities, Praça Estrela was approached as a living laboratory. As an urban market for fresh produce and handicrafts, it serves as a space for sociability, informal economic activity and identity-building, while remaining highly vulnerable to climate change.
On the margins of the event, Keitty de Oliveira Silva also recorded a short audio contribution for the programme I Am a Scientist, introducing the CULTIVAR project to a wider public. The recording is available here.
