Promoting interdisciplinarity in higher education: the first training hosted by the University of Évora

The first Teacher Training Seminar of the CULTIVAR project took place between 7 and 11 July 2025.

The University of Évora hosted a group of 22 lecturers from the project’s partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) – the University of São Tomé and Príncipe, the University of Cape Verde, ISCEE (Higher Institute of Economic and Business Sciences), and the Piaget University of Cape Verde.

The seminar programme, entitled “Educating for Transformation: Resources for a More Interdisciplinary and Sustainable Higher Education”, included training sessions and experience-sharing between lecturers from the partner HEIs and members of the University of Évora team.

The sessions covered topics such as intangible cultural heritage, blue tourism, sustainable tourism monitoring, dynamic landscapes, valorisation of local food products, the fight against food loss and waste, and food safety. These were complemented by technical visits to the Frei Manuel do Cenáculo National Museum, Évora Public Library, Herdade do Freixo do Meio, and the By Graciete Soup Factory.

The training aims to strengthen the skills of academic teams in the partner countries, with two main objectives: updating curricular programmes and preparing teams for the development of interdisciplinary cultural projects.

The next training seminar will be held in Alghero, from 22 to 26 September, and will be hosted by the University of Sassari (Sardinia, Italy).
