Promoting sustainable development in Cape Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe: the launch of the CULTIVAR project

On January 21st, 2025, the partners of the newborn EU Co-funded project CULTIVAR met online to mark the start of the project and begin their collaboration.

The University of Évora, as project coordinator, welcomed all partners: Università degli Studi di Sassari, UNIMED, University of São Tomé and Príncipe, University of Cape Verde, Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Empresariais, Instituto Piaget de Cabo Verde and the associated partner Direção Geral de Cultura de São Tomé e Príncipe.

The University of Évora opened the meeting with an overview of the project and its main objectives. Each Work Package leader then presented their planned activities and timelines.

This meeting laid the first stone of a project dedicated to promoting sustainable development in tropical islands by building local capacity to preserve cultural heritage, safeguard traditional knowledge, and improve local food production. The project will continue until December 2026.
