The Università di Sassari hosted the second training seminar of the CULTIVAR project

The second Teacher Training Seminar under the CULTIVAR project took place in Alghero from 22 to 26 September.

The Università di Sassari (UNISS) welcomed a group of 18 lecturers from partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) – the University of São Tomé and Príncipe, the University of Cape Verde, ISCEE (Higher Institute of Economic and Business Sciences), and the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde.

The programme included training sessions and exchanges of experiences between lecturers from the partner HEIs and members of the teams from Università di Sassari and the University of Évora.

This second seminar focused on tools for understanding local territories and promoting territorial development in a sustainable manner. The sessions addressed topics such as: smart specialisation strategies (S3); museums, communities and the digital society; local partnerships and territorial planning that safeguards and enhances environmental and cultural resources; the value of local products for the sustainable development of territories; and the application of various tools for landscape characterisation and protection. The training activities were complemented by technical visits to the UNISS Experimental Farm, the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park, the town of Fertilia, the Nuraghe of Santa Sabina in Silanus, the small village of Mamoiada – renowned for the Mamuthones di Mamoiada carnival dance procession – and the Nivola Museum, a Contemporary Art Museum in Orani.

The training aims to strengthen the skills of academic teams from partner countries, with two main objectives: updating curricular programmes and building the capacity of teams to develop interdisciplinary cultural projects.

The CULTIVAR project team will meet again in person in February 2026, in São Tomé and Príncipe and in Cape Verde, to continue the project’s activities.
